RESPIRATORY MEDICINE

Respiratory conditions range from the common cold to more serious chest infections and asthma.

They can affect people of any age including the young & old.

Simple viral respiratory infections causing cough, runny nose, sorethroat & mild fever usually run their course within a week as the body’s own immune system fights off the virus.

Treatment when you see your family GP might include medications to relieve your symptoms & help you to rest more comfortably as well as supplements to improve immunity.

If your fever persists with worsening of cough or sore throat especially if you develop shortness of breath or wheezing, do consult your doctor as soon as possible for a thorough check up as this may indicate a more serious infection such as pneumonia, tonsillitis or bronchitis, &/or asthma.

ALLERGY CONDITIONS

Allergy conditions include atopic dermatitis (eczema), asthma, allergic conjunctivitis and anaphylaxis. Symptoms may include red eyes, an itchy rash, sneezing, a persistent runny &/or blocked nose, shortness of breath, wheeze &/or swelling.

Proper diagnosis and appropriate care by your family GP can make all the difference, and is sometimes essential.
